THE CASTLE OF PONT CHEVRON
There was in the middle Ages, a castle located on an island in the middle of the pond. It remains today only few foundations in ruins and a stone bridge.
The owner at the time was called Chevron and so gave it name to the bridge. The old castle was in ruins at the beginning of the century and was finally demolished at that time.
The present castle is located between the Puisaye and Gâtinais.
The castle of Pont Chevron was built on plans of the eighteenth century. Therefore we find in this architecture a perfect symmetry, simplicity and elegance that is quite remarkable.
The castle was built by Count Louis d'Harcourt at the end of last century and is inhabited all year by the owners heirs of the Earl of Harcourt. The gardens surrounding the castle are composed of French gardens with rectangles of lawn interspersed with carved stone vases. East Side lays the garden. Between the garden and the courtyard is the rose garden that has been restored.
